This content is designed for participants in Anti Entropy's SparkWell fiscal sponsorship program. While some context will be specific to SparkWell and may need more context, we've made these resources public because they may, nevertheless, be useful to others who may be founding or building an organization.


1. About this Policy

1.1. The Organization provides healthcare benefits (health, dental, vision) and retirement benefits (401(k)) to eligible employees through Deel.

1.2. This policy provides a general overview. Refer directly to Deel for official enrollment, eligibility, costs, and claims information. Official plan documents control in the event of any discrepancy.

1.3. This policy does not form part of any employee's employment contract, and we may amend it at any time.


2. Healthcare Benefits

2.1. Available Coverage

2.1.1. Health insurance: Medical coverage for you and eligible dependents

2.1.2. Dental insurance: Preventive, basic, and major services

2.1.3. Vision insurance: Eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses

2.2. Enrollment

2.2.1. New employees:

  • Enroll within 30 days of your start date through your Deel benefits portal
  • If you miss this window, you must wait until open enrollment unless you have a qualifying life event

2.2.2. Open enrollment:

  • Occurs annually
  • Make changes to your plan selections, coverage levels, or dependents during this period

2.2.3. Qualifying life events:

  • Report to Deel within 30 days to make mid-year changes
  • Events include marriage, divorce, birth/adoption, loss of other coverage, or employment status changes

2.3. Costs

2.3.1. The Organization contributes toward healthcare premiums. Your portion is deducted from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis. See your Deel portal for specific amounts.

2.4. Coverage During Leave

2.4.1. Family & Medical Leave / Paid leave: Benefits typically continue as if actively employed

2.4.2. Unpaid leave: Depends on type and length of leave

2.4.3. Contact your supervisor and Deel for specific guidance.

2.5. COBRA

2.5.1. If you lose coverage due to employment termination or other qualifying events, you may continue coverage through COBRA. Deel will provide information when applicable.


3. Retirement Benefits (401(k))

3.1. About the Plan

3.1.1. The Organization offers a 401(k) retirement savings plan through Deel with pre-tax and Roth (after-tax) contribution options.

3.2. Enrollment

3.2.1. Enroll anytime after becoming eligible through your Deel benefits portal:

  • Select contribution amount
  • Choose investment options
  • Designate beneficiaries

3.2.2. You may be automatically enrolled at a default rate; you can change this or opt out at any time.

3.3. Contributions

3.3.1. Employee contributions:

  • Made through payroll deductions
  • Choose between:
    • Pre-tax: Reduces taxable income now; taxed upon withdrawal
    • Roth: After-tax contributions; qualified withdrawals are tax-free
  • Change your contribution amount anytime through Deel

3.3.2. IRS limits:

  • Annual contribution limits apply
  • See Deel portal for current limits and catch-up provisions (age 50+)

3.3.3. Employer matching:

  • The Organization may provide matching contributions
  • See Deel portal for match percentage, vesting schedule, and eligibility

3.4. Investments and Vesting

3.4.1. Investment options:

  • Target-date funds, stock funds, bond funds, money market funds, and other options
  • You select your allocations
  • Educational resources available through Deel

3.4.2. Vesting:

  • Your contributions are always 100% vested
  • Employer contributions (if applicable) may follow a vesting schedule

3.5. Accessing Funds

3.5.1. While employed:

  • Generally cannot withdraw except for hardship or loans (if plan permits)
  • Early withdrawals subject to taxes and penalties

3.5.2. After separation:

  • Options include leaving funds in plan, rolling over to new employer or IRA, or taking distribution
  • Deel will explain options upon separation

3.5.3. Age 73+:

  • Required minimum distributions apply per IRS rules

3.6. Beneficiaries

3.6.1. Designate beneficiaries through Deel portal. Update anytime.

3.6.2. Married employees may need spousal consent to name a non-spouse primary beneficiary.
