A nonprofit’s registered agent (legal entity registration) is a living person who will receive legal and other documents and forward them to the organization. This is becasue many laws and regulations require some notices to be mailed or delivered in person; the registered agent is the person who receives these items on behalf of the company.
A registered agent can be an employee or a board member; there are also businesses who provide the service of being a registered agent for the organization.
The registered agent will also need to give an address that can receive mail and notifications. If your organization does not have a physical address, you can use your personal address or set up a PO box.
