Why this documentation matters
This article guides you through what to expect once your project has been recommended for funding by Coefficient Giving. It covers what needs to happen before the money becomes available for your project.
What is Coefficient Giving
Coefficient Giving, formerly known as Open Philanthropy, is a philanthropic research and advisory organization. It does not hold most of the funds it recommends. Instead, it submits its recommendation to a grantmaking entity or an external funding partner, such as a donor-advised fund or a partner foundation. When your grant is approved, you receive an email naming the specific fund or partner that will be paying you.
What to send Anti Entropy at the beginning
When Coefficient Giving indicates that they are going to make a recommendation, let your Program Manager know. Forward the following to your SparkWell Program Manager as you receive them:
- The original notification email from Coefficient Giving.
- You do not sign anything; Anti Entropy signs on your project's behalf.
What to expect
You're going to receive an email from Coefficient Giving that begins the due diligence process.
- Due diligence links. Coefficient Giving will share two links to launch its due diligence process:
- A general information link asking for the legal name, EIN, and mailing address of the entity receiving the grant. Since your project is fiscally sponsored, use Anti Entropy's information here.
- The link also asks for a grant agreement signatory. List Anti Entropy's Managing Director as the signatory.
- A payment logistics link. Choose ACH as the payment method. List yourself as the primary contact and find the ACH information in your Mercury account.
- If you need support locating the Mercury account information, contact your Program Manager.
- A general information link asking for the legal name, EIN, and mailing address of the entity receiving the grant. Since your project is fiscally sponsored, use Anti Entropy's information here.
- Handoff to the paying entity. Once both links are submitted, the process moves to the fund or partner named in the notification email. That entity may contact you directly. At this point, it will also start including Anti Entropy on emails.
- Grant Agreement. Sometimes there is no grant agreement, only an award letter. If there is a grant agreement, Anti Entropy will sign it.
- Anti Entropy will review any grant restrictions included in the grant agreement.
- Payment. The paying entity initiates payment once the agreement or award letter is finalized. This can take up to four weeks.
- Once your funds arrive, notify your Coefficient Giving evaluator.
